The plan is to be there by 1PM for the car show. I'll double check to see when we can check in and post that.

On the subject of attire...we are planning to have a "Boot & Bonnet" Show, not for the Minis, but for the owners. Men & Women!

So plan to wear some Kool Boots and a funky hat

For those joining us for the Valentines Day dinner at the Casino you will need to make a reservation for the time. Some of us are dining at 7:30PM which will give us a litle time to relax after the carshow, perhaps take in a sauna or hot tub, a few rolls of the dice before dinner. Please tell them that you are with MINI Thunder, It is open dining so you are free to dine at any time.

On another note, in-car cameras are OK as long as they are properly mounted. That measn fix mounting to head rest or suction cup like GoPro cameras. No bailing wirem, chewing gum, or duct tape mounting.

Dave Mani will be at the track and will equip your Mini with an in car camera and take track video from your car, edit the film, add your name and some kool music and provide you with a DVD copy for $60.00, He takes cash or check only and you need to pre-reserve this be emailing Eric Diamond at Thunderhill:diamond@thunderhill.com

Couple more updates:

Colusa Casino is providing prizes for the 5 car show catagorey winners. We will have 5 catagories. Each winner will get one free future nights stay at the casino resort hotel. That's a total of 5
As mentioned above the casino will be furnishing the car show contestants complimentary sodas and water during the show. I believe that casino patrons will be asked to fill out ballots to elect the winners. I understand the ballots will be given out to patrons & they will get free gaming chips when they turn them in.

In addition we will be having a "Boot & Bonnet" show, not for the Minis but for the owners. To qualify you must be wearing boots and a hat of somekind for the car show. This is open to both men & women. Pictures will be taken and a vote will be taken during lunch @ Thunderhill on Monday. The winner will be determined by the loudest applause. So wear your boots and a "funky" hat and you may win! The winner of the contest will get a free night at the Hotel Fusion on Union Square in San Francisco CA

We have set up a beautiful backroads run from the casino to Thunderhill. Its approximately 75 miles and will take about 2 1/2 hours. This is offered to those that don't wish to put their Minis on track. If the run begines at 9:00AM you will be arriving at 11:30AM at Thunderhill for lunch, games, parade laps and awards.

The Thunderhill staff are arranging a "Newlywed Game". All I know is that you need to be a couple to compete. They will select the contestants and you will be asked "Newlywed" questions. That's ALL I know for now. This well also be held during lunch. The winner will also get one free night's stay at the Hotel Fusion on Union Square in San Francisco.

We have enough interest in the "In-Car" videos being offered by Dave Mani so he will be there. Please make sure you email Eric Diamond if you would like to take advantage of this service. I am attaching a flier.

I know that this is NOT a racing event, BUT there will be some noteable drivers and Minis there, so if you want to come out and watch you are more than welcome. Here are just a few: Vince Parker USTCC Rookie of the Year will be sharing #96 with our own Hans Dinse. Steve Lilves will be driving his Huffaker prepared Classic Mini, Mike Kearney will be driving the 5-Time National Champion "Fortech" Mini, and we will have Don Racine and the Racine family driving three of the Mini Mania racing classic Minis.

FYI Just heard from Rob Cerno that the rooms for the Colusa Casino are sold out for MINI Thunder, so you will need to find a room elsewhere. I suggest Willows as it is near the track and has plenty of hotels.

If you are looking for rooms. Holiday Inn Express, Baymount, Travel Lodge. You can call Michelle @ 530-934-8900 and she can book you for anyone of these. Make sure you tell them you are with MINI Thunder and going to a Thunderhill event. They do offer discounts!

We have a great turnout expected with lots of entries and great weather. There are still openings if you wish to join us for MINI Thunder, but if you just want to come out and watch its free and we will have plenty of activities going on. If you come out to spectate you will be able to drive the track (Parade Laps) during the lunch hour. These will be at reduced speeds and you will not require a helmet. We have a beautiful backroads run planned for Monday morning leaving the Colusa Casino at 9:00AM and arriving at Thunderhill at about 11:30AM, just in time for lunch. We will be having our Mini Car Show at the Colusa Casino on Sunday 1-4PM. We have "fun" catagories and the Casino is providing future free nights as prizes for the winners. We are also having a "Boot & Bonnet" show, not for the Minis, but for the Mini owners. So grab you funky hat and boots and join in on the fun. The casino patrons will be filling out the ballots for both the car winners and the Boot & Bonnet winner. Boot & Bonnet winner will receive a nights stay at the Hotel Fusion on Union Square in San Francisco. Dinner at the Casino is Sunday night for those that want to join in.

Monday is MINI Thunder track Day, gates open at 7:00AM, complimentary continental breakfast from 7-9AM, mandatory drivers meeting at 8:00AM,a nd first Minis on track at 8:30AM. We have 5ea 25 minutes sessions planned, plus some fun and games at lunch.

I am attaching the MINI Thunder Track Menu and the Schedule.

Weather now looks like 66F temp, early morning clouds, changing to sunny skies, partly cloudy. PERFECT conditions for a Mini on the track

This is going to be awesome! How can one be sure if he has selected the proper run group? I guessed at 1 and 2, not being too sure. I guess I should have asked sooner. I did want to have us both in different groups since we are sharing the car. Did I do the right thing? If not, is it too late to change?

Its best to run in two different groups if you are sharing a car. If you have any track or racing experience you may want to go with intermediate. If not start with beginners and we can move you up. If both of you are beginners, then pick the one with the least experience and put them in the beginner group. The other should go into intermediate. In any case you will have an instructor riding with you even if you are drivin in the intermediate group. Other drivers will know. Passing in the beginner and intermediate groups will be a bit more restricted and will require a "point-by". A "ponit-by" is when the driver/car infront gives a hand signal to the driver behind to go ahead and pass and indicates which side to pass on. This way both cars/drivers know which side the pass it to take place. This avoids someone from pulling over right in front of the car passing. This will all be discussed during the drivers meeting.

Also you will not necessarily be "stuck" in a certain group all day. If you find that you are being held up and have improved your skills, you can request to be moved to another group. Also if you feel that you are going slower than the others and feel that you wish to move to another group, please request that as well.

If everything hold for the schedule, we will have a lot of track time. 5 ea - 25 minutes sessions is a lot. You may grow a bit tired in the afternoon. If you find that you are tired and have a hard time concentrating, consider sitting out a session and rest.

Your MINIs are capable of driving all day long. The temperatures are almost ideal for MINIs. Check fluid levels, tire pressures and wheel torques after each session if possible. Big O Tires will be there to perform the tire & wheel services free of charge as well as Niello and Northbay Bavarian. Defenders of Speed (Clint Cope) will be there to assist and can do some installs. Mini Mania will have spare parts if you need anything. There will be alot of people offering assistance, so just ask and someone will help.

Wow. I think we got it right. Thank you so much for the clear explanation. If my wife ends up kicking my butt, then we'll move her up to intermediate. In the mean time, I'll try to hold on to my ego. She nearly had me on the go-kart track last week! This is going to be a fantastic driving experience. I think I'll go out to the garage and find a few more decals for a few extra horsepower!!!!

One step ahead of you! I use Meguiars HIGH PERFORMANCE detail spray. It's good for a few extra horses over the regular detail spray. It's sooo slippery that my car cover slides off. It's sooo slippery, that I don't even get wind noise at high speed! It's sooo slippery, I have to hold the e-brake at stop lights!
