Trinity-Shasta-Lassen Run

June 23-25, 2006

  • 06-23-06:  Pre-run starting in Healdsburg, heading north on SR-101 to Fortuna then east to Redding (optional for those really looking for more back road mountain driving). Please refer to the route map.
  • 06-23-06:  Everyone will meet in Redding Friday night. Because members will be arriving all hours of the day and night (and possibly early Saturday morning), dinner will be on your own or with other Mini Enthusiasts you meet upon your arrival. If you arrive early enough and have made reservations, join members for dinner on a Shasta Lake Dinner Cruise  800-795-2283.
  • 06-24-06: Participants will meet by 8:30am for a 9:00am departure. We will head west on SR-299 towards Weaverville, up SR-3 to have lunch at Trinity Center. After lunch we will take back country mountain roads to Gazelle, Weed, and eventually south to Mount Shasta. Please refer to the route map. After checking in the motel, interested participants will have a short group run to Bunny Flat on Mount Shasta. Dinner is on your own or you can join the group headed for dinner on the Shasta Sunset Dinner Train
  • 06-25-06: Sunday will be a very full day of driving. After departing from Mount Shasta at 9am, we will take a spirited drive to Burney Falls for an early picnic lunch and Mount Lassen for a late picnic lunch (or snack). We will return to Redding in the late afternoon or early evening depending on stops. Please refer to the route map. Plan on joining the group for dinner and spend another night in the Redding area, or just head home.

Clarification on how to reserve you spot on this run:

For the motel / hotel rooms book them yourself. We have only reserved a limited number of rooms (we can increase the number if we know far enough in advance), so book them as soon as possible. Tell them you are from the Redwood Mini group (giving them our club name was too long).

If you want to go on the lake cruise Friday night, you need to book that yourslf (it won't be a formal club event).

If you want to go on the dinner train on Saturday night, you must reserve with us by sending a check made out to Redwood Empire Mini Enthusiasts and mail to P.O. Box 944 Healdsburg, CA 95448. This is very important since we have to get a deposit to them shortly and we need to be sure we have at least 25 people going to get the discounted rates.

If you plan on going on any part of this event, I do need a filled in application faxed at (707) 837-9836 or mailed to me at the above address.

I hope this clarifies any questions, if not email me or post your question in this forum.

The pre-run on Friday 6/23/06 will be a full day of driving (about 325 miles) starting in Healdsburg at 9am, taking 101 and The Avenue of the Giants north, having lunch and gas stop in Fortuna about 1:30pm. We will meet up with any participants from PDX, leaving Fortuna about 2pm, to arrive in Redding sometime after 6pm. This will be a quick paced drive through the mountains with few formal rest stops. NOT FOR THE WEAK OF BLADDER. See the new run map.

Peter,
Any thoughts about where to stay in Healdsburg on Thursday night (6/22/06). Giving serious thoughts about coming your way for the pre-run on Friday. SR-36 from Fortuna to Red Bluff was an E-ticket ride. Much better than driving up I-5 to Redding.
I can give you a check on 2/12/06 for Terrie and myself ...... Shasta Dinner Train.

We have lots of hotels, motels, and bed & breakfasts. Healdsburg is a Yuppie, Carmel wannabe town where rooms can be as high as $450 per night and as little as around $120. You could do much better in northern Santa Rosa (12 miles to the south) or even Windsor (5 miles to the south). There is a new Holiday Inn Express in Windsor (only about 1 year old) so the beds still may be stiff and the carpet relatively clean. There is also one in northern Santa Rosa, as well as better brand places. Let me know what you want to spend and I can likely find you something. I would think that you could find a decent $75 room in Santa Rosa in a Best Western, Days Inn. etc.

I booked a room for Matt and I in Santa Rosa at the Courtyard (Marriott) for Thursday night, per the map it is under 15 minutes from the meet up on Friday morning. I am using my Marriott points, but I think the room is around $140 for the night. I am sure there are cheaper rooms around, but using points is really cheap for me.

If it's on the south side of railroad square, I would estimate 20 minutes to the Healdsburg Square (without traffic), and there should be no traffic. That hotel is on the south west side of Santa Rosa. Nice place but many motels a lot closer.

Quinton, please download the registration to the run, sign it on the third page where indicated, and mail or fax the first and third page to me. Additionally I need the check for the Dinner train made out to Redwood Empire Mini Enthusiasts. You can mail it or bring it to me on the February run. Are you still having troubles logging in? If you use the "I forgot password" feature, log in using the password the program sends to you. If you want to change the password, use the My Settings link. The new password must be at least 4 characters long.

Just a reminder to all, when making your reservations be sure to tell them you are with the "REDWOOD MINI COOPERS". That should get you your discounts.

The rates for the rooms in Mt. Shasta (Best Western-Saturday Night) are:

Single Bed: $95.00 per night +tax (with taxes it ends up $111.87)
Two Bed rooms: $105.00/night + tax (with taxes = $115.50)

I suggest that you make these soon as the Redding/Mt. Shasta area does book up quickly in the summer. Also they only need your credit card number to make the reservation, the don't run your charge through until you actually stay so you won't get a charge on your statement until then.

The Trinity-Shasta-Lassen & Shasta Dinner Train RSVP list has been updated. If you are interested in going please sign up soon.

We now have participants representing Redwood Empire Mini Enthusiasts, Sierra Nevada Mini Coopers, NorCal MINIs, and PDX MINIs. I am hoping for a few members from Central Oregon MINI Association and Idaho MINI Club.

We'll be dropping the kids off at my folks in Eureka on Thurs and will meet up with you all in Fortuna for the pre-run across 36. I absolutely LOVE that road but have only done it coming out of Red Bluff and not the other way. I am trying to get a hold of my 2nd cousin who is in central OR to see if he and any friends of Coopers want to join up as well. I'll let you know or point them to the website.

I do have a notice posted on COMA (http://www.coma.ms/cs/), but as of yet no response. I would love to see a group from central and southern Oregon join us. We do have one car coming from the Portland area.

Rob,
Any of your central Oregon relatives or friends able to make it? The dinner train reservations are closing soon and it would be smart to make motel resrvations ASAP.
